Kolkata (West Bengal):
West Bengal minister Jyotipriya Mallick, who was arrested in connection with an alleged multi-crore ration scam, on Friday expressed concerns about his health, stating that his right leg problems may lead to paralysis. He made these statements while being taken to the Command Hospital for a medical check-up in Kolkata and did not respond to questions about the ration scam. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has extended his custody till November 13 and he is scheduled to appear before the chief metropolitan magistrate court in Kolkata on that day. The Trinamool Congress leader and state minister was arrested by the ED on October 26 in connection with the alleged corruption in the public distribution system. Mr. Mallick conveyed that he was a “victim of a grave conspiracy” as he was being taken into custody. The investigation into the alleged ration distribution scheme continues.
