World Cup 2023 Points Table: Australia came out in full force at the Cricket World Cup on Wednesday against Netherlands to register a huge 309-run win. It is the second highest win margin (in terms of runs) in ODI cricket. Australia were boosted by centuries from David Warner and Glenn Maxwell, whose 40-ball ton is the fastest ever in Cricket World Cup history, as they notched a huge 399/8 in 50 overs. In reply, Netherlands were all out for just 90. (World Cup points table)

With the win, Australia have consolidated their place in the top four of the Cricket World Cup points table. The Pat Cummins-led Australia are currently fourth with six points from five matches (NRR +1.142). India (10 points in 5 games, NRR +1.353), South Africa (8 points in 5 games, NRR +2.370) and New Zealand (8 points in 5 games, NRR +1.481) hold the top three spots. However, with Australia’s win, fifth-placed Pakistan (4 points in 5 games, NRR -0.400) is under more pressure. They are not only behind on points but also on NRR.

Following his 106-run knock from 44 balls against the Netherlands in the 24th match of the ODI World Cup at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Wednesday, Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell shattered several records.

Maxwell played a solid partnership with Pat Cummins of 103 runs against the Dutch side and made the highest seventh-wicket stand or lower for Australia in World Cups.

Nathan Coulter-Nile and Steven Smith stand in second place with a 102-run partnership against West Indies in 2019. Michael Bevan and Andy Bichel hold the third place with their 37-run partnership against New Zealand in 2003.

Maxwell also has joint second-most sixes by an Aussie player in a World Cup innings with eight sixes. Ricky Ponting also smashed eight sixes in his innings against India in the 2003 WC final. Australia opener David Warner holds the first place with nine sixes against Pakistan in 2023. Mitchell Marsh is in the second spot with nine sixes against Pakistan in the ongoing ODI World Cup.

Maxwell became the third Australian cricketer to smash the most sixes for Australia in the 50-over format with 138 maximums. Ricky Ponting holds the top spot with 159 sixes. Meanwhile, Adam Gilchrist is in second place with 148 sixes.
