As many as 137 Indian nationals who have been allegedly concerned in a large-scale on-line monetary rip-off throughout a number of areas in Sri Lanka have been arrested by police, in accordance with a media report on Friday.

Equally, in Kochchikade, authorities apprehended 53 people and confiscated 31 laptops and 58 cellphones.

The operation in Madiwela led to the arrest of 13 suspects and restoration of eight laptops and 38 cellphones, whereas in Thalangama, 16 suspects have been taken into custody with eight laptops and 38 cellphones.

The SSP mentioned that every one the arrested suspects have been males.

The crackdown follows a grievance from a sufferer who was lured right into a WhatsApp group promising money for social media interactions.

Additional investigation revealed a scheme the place victims have been coerced into making deposits after preliminary funds. In Peradeniya, a father-son duo admitted to aiding the fraudsters, the newspaper reported.
