Internet security concerns are at the forefront – according to Vint Cerf, the “Father of Internet”. In an interview with NDTV, he proposed the concept of an “Internet Driver’s license” as a potential solution to address the increasing unsafe nature of the internet. Cerf, who is also the Chief Internet Evangelist of Google, emphasized the importance of being cautious when dealing with online requests for money or assistance.
He warned about the prevalence of phishing attempts, where scammers masquerade as legitimate entities to trick individuals into revealing sensitive information or downloading malware. Cerf underscored the need for skepticism and validation of such requests to mitigate the risk of falling victim to online scams.
Considering the need for enhanced awareness and protection, Cerf suggested implementing an “internet driver’s license” program that educates individuals about internet hazards and how to defend themselves. He emphasized the importance of teaching the population to recognize potential threats and defend against them.
