Former England cricketer Graeme Swann is mentoring a group of young England spinners in preparation for a ‘Shadow Tour’ of India next month. This tour will precede a five-Test series scheduled to begin on January 25. Swann, a former off-spinner, played a pivotal role in England’s historic 2-1 Test series win against India in 2012-13.
Currently, Swann is serving as a spin bowling consultant during an England Lions’ camp in the UAE, where he is imparting his knowledge to the young spinners. He emphasized that the pressure in Test cricket is felt more by the batsmen than the bowlers, and advised the young players to stick to their strengths and be consistent.
Swann, who claimed 255 wickets in 60 Tests for England, expressed his joy in working with the team and contributing to English cricket. He also acknowledged that his career was cut short by an elbow injury but harbors no regrets, despite feeling a twinge of jealousy at times when he sees his former teammates still playing.
