Former South African cricketer AB de Villiers has revealed that he was released by the Delhi Daredevils (now known as Delhi Capitals) after being told that he would be retained by the franchise before the 2011 IPL auction. This came as a surprise to him, as he had been given an assurance of retention during a team meeting.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, ‘AB de Villiers 360’, de Villiers expressed his disappointment with the lack of communication and the uncertainty it brought to his career. However, he was eventually picked up by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the auction, which turned out to be a life-changing moment for him. He went on to form a successful partnership with Virat Kohli at RCB.
Despite the setback, de Villiers encouraged released players to stay positive and work hard, emphasizing that it’s not the end of the road for them.
