Glenn Maxwell reproduced his outstanding performance from the World Cup against Afghanistan, guiding Australia to a five-wicket victory in the third T20I at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium. In his 100th T20I game, Maxwell’s incredible unbeaten 104 runs off 48 balls spoiled the Indian team’s celebration and made it even more special. He joined Aaron Finch and Josh Inglis as the joint fastest Australian player to score a century in T20Is.
Travis Head, playing his first game since Australia’s World Cup triumph, confidently scored boundaries while chasing 223.
Alongside Aaron Hardie, Head played the first 12 balls and scored 25 runs. Australia scored 46 runs in the first four overs before Arshdeep Singh took Hardie’s wicket.
Avesh Khan, replacing Mukesh Kumar, took the wicket of Head, who scored 35 runs. Ravi Bishnoi bowled a quick googly to dismiss Josh Inglis. Maxwell then came in and played aggressively to keep Australia on track for the challenging chase.
After 10 overs, Australia’s score was 105/3. Bishnoi continued to trouble Australia’s batsmen, dismissing Tim David for a golden duck. But Maxwell’s outstanding performance guided Australia to victory, reminiscent of his innings against Afghanistan in the World Cup.
Maxwell’s explosive hitting in the last two overs helped Australia secure the win by five wickets. Ruturaj Gaikwat’s unbeaten 123 off 57 balls powered India to a total of 222/3.
